February 11, 2009, Taipei, Taiwan – All nationals and citizens of U.S. Visa Waiver Program countries are now required to obtain a travel authorization before traveling to the United States. The travel authorization can be obtained online through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Applications must be made online at least 72 hours before departure. On January 12, 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security began to require all eligible travelers, including accompanied and unaccompanied children, regardless of age, to obtain an ESTA authorization. Travelers from U.S. Visa Waiver Program countries who fail to obtain ESTA authorization may be denied boarding, experience delayed processing, or be denied admission at a U.S. port of entry. All travelers from countries under the Visa Waiver Program will still be required to complete a written form for presentation at a US port of entry. For the convenience of users, the website service is available in 21 languages.
